Learning Support Programme
The Lyford Cay International School serves as a community resource for international and Bahamian families. LCIS offers a high standard Nursery through High School education. Through a multi-cultural environment that promotes understanding amongst diverse nationalities, students are provided with the opportunities and resources to become cross-cultural learners and responsible citizens. Lyford Cay International School is an independent, non-denominational, day school. The school is a non-profit-making entity governed by a Board of Directors. A broad curriculum has been developed to serve the many needs of the student population.
The school has an internationally mixed and experienced teaching staff, all of whom are trained teachers with degrees and/or teaching certificates.
The curriculum is challenging. All students of Kindergarten and up take annual standardized tests. The Middle School students follow the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Program and students in the High School follow the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program.
The school is a purpose-built facility, situated in a beautiful part of the island of New Providence. There are 22 classrooms, a library/media center, a music and an art studio, a computer lab and a science laboratory. Each classroom is equipped with multi-media computers and full on-line service to the Internet. Sports facilities include a large playing field accommodating a soccer pitch, softball diamond, basketball court and running track. The Aquatics program features sailing and scuba diving. A sponsorship and scholarship program is in place. The Co-curricular Program includes activities such as soccer, softball, basketball, ballet, a steel drum band, a computer club, volley ball, swimming, hockey, drama, music, and tutoring.
