Learning Support Programme
The school was founded in 1969 and it is surrounded by woodlands and lakes near the Royal Museum of Central Africa in Tervuren, and is 20 minutes’ drive from central Brussels. The school is a coeducational non-selective day school for students from 1 to 18 years of age, with 1250 currently on roll. There is an on-campus crèche for children from 1 to 3 years of age. Currently 41% of the students are British and there are always between 60 and 70 nationalities represented in the school.
A British Based Curriculum is offered within an international context with courses leading to GCSE and IGCSE examinations at 16 years old and GCE A Levels, as well as Vocational Courses including IBCC. The International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma is offered in addition to A Levels. French is taught from the age of three and German, Dutch or Spanish from age eleven. There is an Educational Psychologist and a Learning Support Department. English language immersion course and EAL support are provided for non-native English speakers.
The school has excellent facilities and include a science and maths centre, networked IT suites, dance and drama studios as well as eight science laboratories, four art studios and three technology workshops, comprehensive modern languages and humanities suites and a self-service cafeteria.
The Arts play a major role in the life of the school: music, drama and dance thrive and a wide range of performances are held regularly in the 240-seat theatre. The Music Department has a Music Technology suite, full-scale recording studio and a rehearsal studio.
A wide range of sports is offered, including rugby, football, hockey, tennis, gymnastics, athletics and basketball and the school participates successfully in the ISST and GISGA. Similarly there is a wide range of extra-curricular activities in sport, music and drama with frequent opportunities for overseas travel and school journeys.
Advice on higher and further education and on choice of career is available to all students through its comprehensive multinational careers counsellors. Guest speakers from various walks of life are also invited to the school to give advice and support. University destinations worldwide are impressive.
