Yellowhead Tribal College Canada
Since its inception as the West Edmonton Tribal Council in 1977, Yellowhead Tribal Council has endeavored to provide economic, social and educational support services to First Nation member bands. From the early 1980s onward YTC has offered education programs to its members to provide educational opportunities that could not be successfully accessed in mainstream institutions. The first permanent education program, the University and College Entrance Preparation Program, was established in the spring of 1984. YTC Education has evolved from this once small upgrading program into Yellowhead Tribal College, a center offering accredited post-secondary courses, certificates, diplomas, and degrees through recognized colleges and universities, in particular, Athabasca University, Lethbridge Community College and the University of Alberta. Programs presently offered at YTC include: Adult Basic Education, Academic Upgrading, UCEPP, Health and Wellness, Bachelor of Administration (AU), University Transfer, First Nations Management, Criminal Justice Diploma and Off-Campus studies. YTC plans to carry
its history of success into the future. The 2000 Five-Year Plan
addresses community needs in the delivery of relevant accredited
programs, which prepare First Nation students for employment on and off
First Nation communities. YTC has developed its own accredited programs
grounded in first nations culture and language. YTC presently educates
over 350 students per year, and employs over thirty staff. CONTACT
