The School was founded in 1966. The school year consists of 4 terms, extending from August to June. Enrollment for the 2010-2011 school year, enrollment was 230 students from 36 different nationalities (Junior-Kindergarten-grade 12). The curriculum is modeled after private, college-preparatory schools in the United States. Instruction is in English. English Language Learning support is provided in the elementary and middle school. The full IB Diploma program is offered in the final two years of high school. All students who have completed the IB Diploma program have done very well and received an IB Diploma. French and German are taught as foreign languages in grades SK-12. Croatian culture is taught in grades 1-6. In grades 7 and 8 an introduction to Croatian language for non-native speakers is offered and Croatian language for native speakers is taught in grades 1-12. AISZ is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools and is a member of the European Council of International Schools, the Council of International Schools and the Central and Eastern European Schools Association. AISZ occupies a leased building near the city center, with an adjoining playground area. Facilities include 21 classrooms, a library, 2 computer laboratories, an art studio, 2 science labs, a multipurpose room, fitness room, workrooms and a cafeteria. The School also uses local facilities, including a gymnasium, theater, auditorium, ice rink and tennis courts when necessary and appropriate to enhance the program. Wireless technology is available in all classrooms in addition to the 2 state-of-the-art computer labs, and there are 2 mobile classroom sets of netbooks. |
