Learning Support Programme
Uptown School opened in September 2005 for pupils of all nationalities aged 4 to 11. In 2008, due to the growth of the school, Uptown moved the senior pupils to Uptown High School and now runs on two separate campuses. Uptown School and Uptown High School are both fully Authorized IB World Schools. Uptown School caters for students aged 4 – 11 and offers the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme. The Secondary school (Uptown High), caters for students aged 11 to 18 (Grades 6-12) and is fully authorized for the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme and the IB Middle Years Program - students will be prepared for the MYP Certificate and eventually the IB Diploma Programme.
Both Uptown School and Uptown High are co-educational and dedicated to the pursuit of excellence in all aspects of scholastic and personal growth. The mission is to develop intellectual curiosity, independent and lateral thinking, communication and problem solving skills, a respect for cultural diversity and a life-long passion for learning that will enable our students to engage actively in the global society. The experienced teachers come from all over the world and they all hold university degrees and certification. Uptown Primary offers a welcoming, purpose-built campus which includes a swimming pool, gymnasium, library, ICT Suites and white boards, Art Studio, Science Lab, Music Rooms, Dance Studio, and Caf? Uptown High features a library and media centre, well equipped ICT facilities and interactive whiteboards, dedicated design and technology facilities, dance studio, music practice rooms, a 25-metre swimming pool, gymnasium, multi-purpose basketball court, small football pitch and a canteen. Music is an integral part of the curriculum at both schools and is taught by specialist teachers from Kindergarten upwards. The Music Department involves all students in performances throughout the year and individual tuition is available on a wide range of instruments.
Both campuses offer French & German, with Dutch being offered to Diploma level at the High School.
The teaching and learning of Arabic is integral to the vision of Uptown - Arabic, Islamic Studies and Social Studies are taught in a creative and engaging way, with all our students gaining an understanding of the language and culture in which we live.
A vibrant PE programme ensures that the students are fit and healthy and Uptown Schools participate in many competitions throughout the year.
