Learning Support Programme
New Cairo British International School is a not-for-profit, co-educational, non-denominational school serving the international English and Dutch-speaking communities of Cairo. Approximately 35% of the students are from the host country; 25% are from either the UK or North America and 12. 5% are from the Netherlands. The NCBIS campus is an outstanding education facility combining spacious and high quality accommodation in a healthy 'clean-air' environment. Information and Communications Technology is a key teaching and learning resource at NCBIS and the school has four well-equipped ICT suites, including one dedicated to primary teaching. Recreational facilities include a swimming pool, tennis courts, large soccer pitch and athletics track. Maximum class size is currently 20 students. Ninety-five percent of the teaching staff are recruited from the UK.
The academic ethos at NCBIS is challenging and recognizes the international nature of the school community. The Foundation Years and Primary programmes at NCBIS mirror the English national curriculum with some regional variations, including teaching modern foreign language French from age four and offering Arabic as an option. Primary school pupils work towards the UK end of Key Stage 1 and 2 SATs while the Dutch stream prepares its pupils for the CITO-TOEST in Group 8. In the Secondary school students are offered Spanish, French and Arabic (Standard and Modern) as language options and work towards the UK end of Key Stage 3 SATs in Year 9 before choosing up to eight GCSE options to study Years 10 and 11.
Sixth Form students enjoy a unique and demanding position in the school and they may follow up to five AS and three A2 modules in Years 12 and 13 respectively. Fieldwork is an integral part of the teaching and learning at NCBIS and the programme of one-day and residential educational visits around Egypt, for all age groups, is very popular and provides opportunities for in-depth study and understanding of many curriculum areas. NCBIS also offers parents a range of complementary services such as skiing, scuba- diving and horse-riding. There is a lively performance arts programme, school bus service, on-site catering, instrumental and music lessons, additional lessons for students who have English as an Additional Language and support for students with Special Educational Needs.
