The school opened in 2005 in a new building on the outskirts of Alexandria, away from the pollution of the city. There is a green playing field at the front of the school and an on-site swimming pool is planned for the future. The educational ethos of the whole school seeks to develop all students as unique individuals, recognizing their differences and individual talents and developing their physical, mental, spiritual and emotional well-being. The school is in two parts: a British section delivers the English National Curriculum, leading to the IGCSE examinations and the French section follows the French National Curriculum, leading to the French Baccalaureate. Classes in the British school are from nursery age to AS/A level and in the French section from Petite Section to 3 eme. The school aims for a maximum class size of 18 students. Both curricula are then adapted to meet the educational needs of pupils in Egypt and to reflect trends in international education. The purpose-built school is designed to meet the educational needs of the students and the curricula. There are well-equipped science labs, a dedicated ICT suite, a library, new theatre and a special outside play area for sports and break times. ISE was the first international school in Alexandria to introduce Interactive Whiteboards. The school is the centre point for teaching ICT skills and assist other international schools in the area with training in ICT. In recognition of the national identity of the host country, the school offers Arabic and Religion classes to all students and Egyptian students have the option of qualifying for Egyptian universities. Student nationalities for 2010/11 include Egyptian, Indian, American, British, Thai, Turkish and Armenian. |
