Learning Support Programme

MBIS is an International Primary School situated in Maadi, a suburb of Cairo favoured by expatriates. Approximately 50% of pupils are British; the remaining 50% represent over 30 nationalities. The school follows the English National Curriculum and all its assessment requirements including end of Key Stage 1 and 2 testing. All teaching staff are UK graduate teachers, in the main recruited directly from Britain. In each class there is a teaching assistant working alongside the class teacher. Specialist teachers are employed for French, Arabic, ICT, music, physical education and Special Needs.

The school has a non-class based 'able child' coordinator and a full time SRN. The school relocated to purpose built premises in September 2004, these offer an indoor 25m swimming pool, a superbly equipped theatre, large ICT suite, food technology and Science discovery rooms. There are also spacious outdoor facilities. The school is inspected by registered Ofsted inspections on a five-year cycle.

There is a thriving programme of extra-curricular activities which is as varied as horse-riding and calligraphy. Piano, guitar, drums and violin lessons are available as an after-school activity. Children undergo an assessment before admission. This is to ensure that the school can meet the individual needs of the child. This process can be bypassed if current school reports are available and forwarded to the Headteacher. There is a very strong PTA which benefits all pupils and their parents. The overall aim of the school is to deliver a high quality British education in a caring and stimulating environment. Prospective parents are requested to contact the Headteacher and he would be particularly pleased to show any parents visiting Cairo around the school. The school is a 'not for profit' organisation registered as a non-governmental organisation (NGO) with the Egyptian Ministry of Social Affairs, with a charter to educate foreign children. The school's Board of Directors is made up of parents who have children in the school with the addition of up to three invited governors which at present includes HM Consul in Cairo.
