In partnership with family and community, The International School of Bremen (ISB) seeks a high educational excellence through establishing a varied and dynamic learning environment. It provides an academic, social and physical education in English that promotes the development of responsible, global citizens who are prepared for our ever-changing world.

The City

Bremen is located in the north of Germany. Its city centre reflects a rich medieval trading background, while its modern industrial base draws high tech business that supports the image of Germany's 'Space City'. A public and private university creates a strong academic tradition of which the ISB is part.

The School

ISB is a private, coeducational, college-preparatory, English-speaking school. It was established in 1998 to serve students of the international community of Bremen providing an educational alternative to the German State system. Presently our students and staff represent 42 countries from across the world. Class sizes are generally small with an average of 18 students per grade. The school occupies a purpose-built facility in the Technology Park adjacent to the University Bremen. ISB is a non-selective school, however SEN support is limited.

Faculty

The dedicated and experienced teachers at ISB come from a number of countries (Australia, Germany, India, The Netherlands, Canada, Spain, United Kingdom, South Africa, Burma and USA). The members of our teaching staff are certified according to the standards of their home countries. Many of our teachers hold Master Degrees or Doctorates.

Membership & Accreditation

The School is a member of CfBT, ECIS, CIS and IBO and is accredited by the State of Bremen, Germany.

The Curriculum

Students range in age from 3-19 years. The school offers an international curriculum drawing upon best practices from the UK, USA, Australia and the host country with all instruction in English except for foreign language classes. Specialist teachers provide instruction in music, physical education, art, drama and languages. An ESAC (English Support across the curriculum) is offered for those students who need assistance with English. ISB is recognised in Germany as a STEM school (MINT ec) and prides itself as an integrated Science, Maths and Technology school in an innovative way.

Elementary (Early Learning 1-3 through Grade 5)<\n>Within the ISB Elementary Section the International Primary Curriculum (IPC) is offered. This is a widely recognized course of study that has clear academic benchmarks that set standards for basic skills on which to build an upper level education.

IMYC (Grades 6 through 8)<\n>All students pursue a broad based academic programme guided by the International Middle Years Curriculum. Additionally, three foreign languages are offered: Spanish, French and German. Students bringing other mother languages can often be accommodated within the tradition of an international school. We have been able to support Farsi, Chinese and Russian. Those students with weak English are supported in additional classes.

IGCSE (Grades 9 and 10)<\n>The students participate in the IGCSE programme with a culminating examination in May of Grade 10. Completion and success is not a prerequisite to enter into the IB but is used as an indicator of achievement and future success.

International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme (Grades 11 and 12)<\n>The IB is a two year pre-university course designed to facilitate the mobility of students and promote international understanding. The comprehensive course of study for the IB Diploma is designed to provide students with a balanced education. All students are assessed externally by the IB and if successful are awarded International Baccalaureate Diplomas.
