Learning Support Programme
The State International School Schuldorf (SISS) is a German state international school that offers an international education to children of all nationalities. It was founded in 2005. The school is planned to grow yearly with each new intake until a full education for pupils ages 5-18 is provided.
SISS is part of Europaschule Schuldorf Bergstraße and has access to the facilities, support staff and expertise of this long-established German school. It is closely linked with the private International Preschool. The school follows the British curriculum and the IPC. However, it also has a commitment to ensure compatibility with the German curriculum as defined by the Hessian Ministry of Education. At a secondary level the pupils will take the IGCSE exam at the end of Year 10; the IB exam (International Baccalaureate Diploma) will be offered at the end of Year 12.
All the teachers have a recognized teaching certificate and each class has a teaching assistant in addition to the classroom teacher and in Primary School there are specialist teachers for the languages, music, art and PE. In Secondary School all subjects are taught by specialist teachers. Programmes have been established to support the more and less able. Additional lessons are also offered for English (EAL) and German (DAZ) to ensure that pupils can fully take part in the lessons. Most lessons are taught in English, however some lessons such as music, art and PE are taught in German. The school offers a wide range of after school activities and clubs; most of these are free of charge. SISS provides a full day of schooling and as such is open from 07: 30am–18: 00. Lessons are between 08: 00 (Sec. ) and 08: 45 (Prim. ) – 15: 00.
The school is situated 40 km south of Frankfurt. The primary school building opened in 2006 and has classrooms, a music room, an assembly hall, an art room, a canteen, two supervision rooms, a playground and an ICT suite. It also shares a science laboratory and a bilingual library with the German primary school which is on the same campus. A new building for Y5-12 is under construction.
The admissions procedure commences on 31st January of each year. In Primary the children must satisfy an entrance requirement in English and priority is given to those who fulfil the admissions criteria (see website). Up from Y 2 children have to pass an interview and assessment.
