Greece Education
Greece
enjoys mild winters and very hot, dry summers cooled by
seasonal breezes known as 'meltemia'. Snow can fall in
the mountainous regions in winter. Winter is the wettest
season and rain is unlikely between June and August. The
official language of Greece is Greek. In addition, a
number of non-official, minority languages and some
Greek dialects are spoken as well. The most common
foreign languages learned by Greeks are English, French,
Spanish, Italian, and German. Greece's monetary unit is the Euro. No
other currency is accepted and it is best to exchange
dollars or other currency at a bank. The exchange rates
are all the same throughout the country and you exchange
money at a bank or official exchange shop where you will
get the best running rates. The July 2000 population of Greece was
estimated at 10,601,527. The birth rate was 9.82 births
per 1,000 people while the death rate was 9.64 deaths
per 1,000 people. The annual population growth rate was
estimated at 0.21 percent. Athens is the capital and largest
city of Greece. Athens dominates the Attica periphery
and it is one of the world's oldest cities, as its
recorded history spans around 3,400 years.
