TEFL Certificate Courses in Crete
Via Lingua Crete is located on
the beautiful Mediterranean island of Crete, Greece's largest
island. We offer a TEFL certificate course which is practical in
nature, assessed regularly, and fully complies with all
international standards for the regulation of the global TEFL
industry.
Our TEFL course involves 120
hours of tuition and includes 10 hours of "classroom" teaching.
Trainees teach English to local adult residents (mostly Greek
origin) using the skills learnt on the course as early as Day 3.
All Via Lingua courses are moderated by the prestigious ELT
Institute, Hunter College, City University of New York. Hunter
College, located in the heart of Manhattan, is the largest
college in the City University of New York (CUNY) system.
Founded in 1870, Hunter is also one of the oldest public
colleges in the country.
Crete is the most southern of the Greek islands. Because of its
size, Crete is easily reachable by flight or ferry from Athens.
Flights from Athens to Chania are reasonably priced, leave
several times a day, and take just 40 minutes. Fast and slow
ferries are also available, if you prefer to take your time and
cruise across the Aegean Sea to Chania's local port. Upon
arriving in Chania, you will be met by a member of our staff at
the airport or ferry port and transferred to your hotel
accommodation. We will have everything arranged to welcome you
to Crete with warm, Cretan-style hospitality! The Sunday
evening before the course starts, we have an orientation tour of
the town of Chania, location of the school, and a bite to eat in
the Old Town. As Sunday is a very popular night to go out in
Greece, most groups continue "breaking the ice" at a nearby
seaside club or taverna while getting introduced to a local
favorite, tsikoudia (raki).
The course's length is 4 weeks and we run about 10 courses each
year.
In the morning, we start at
10:00am or thereabouts (Greek time). The morning's input
sessions on skills and methods of teaching are taught by the
school's director, Maria Andreadaki. The afternoon consists
of teaching practice (in small groups), lesson observation
and lesson preparation. The day ends with "classroom"
teaching to one of the 4 different levels (Beginner,
Elementary, Intermediate, Advanced) of English to local
adult residents. This teaching practice is observed by our
qualified trainers and feedback is done immediately upon
completion of the lesson.
The course's length is 4 weeks and we run about 10 courses
each year.
