Bangalore International School is known as 'BIS' and traces its history way back to 1969 where it began as an elementary school with 17 students. Over the years the school has slowly and steadily progressed with the motto 'Aspire, Innovate, Achieve, Excel'.

Bangalore International School focuses on each student as an individual and works towards providing an environment that enhances overall development with skills to 'think creatively, reason critically, and communicate effectively'. It aims to inculcate sound values in students like self-discipline, self-control, social sensitivity and responsibility. Learning while having fun, positive thinking, responsibility towards the community and the nation are some of the areas that are given special attention.

It has a Learning Centre to take care of special needs children. By integrating such students in school, the school aims to provide an atmosphere of acceptance, tolerance, and helpfulness among the students and leading to development of wholesome personalities and responsible citizens.

It has classes from Pre-Primary to Grade 12 and offers the IGCSE and GCE 'A'/'AS' Levels and IBDP Courses for the students. A wide range of subjects is offered to meet the requirements of each student. The school is accredited to the IBO & University of Cambridge Local Examinations Syndicate, CIS and NEASC, and is a Cambridge International Examinations Centre, Advance Placement and SAT Test Centre. The school holds Guidance Counselling Programmes and encourages visits of representatives of worldwide universities to interact with senior students. Regular workshops for students and teachers are held to bring about social, emotional and physical awareness, to tackle varied problems and keeping abreast with the latest happenings is also encompassed in these workshops. Basketball, soccer, table tennis, tennis, badminton, swimming, riding, Tae-kwon-do and dance are some of the physical activities the school offers. Within school hours, art, craft, home economics, carpentry, debate, theatre & drama and elocution are some of the activities offered. Newpaper-in-Eduaction (NIE) and Theatre-in-Education (TIE) are two programmes integrated into the school curriculum.

The school dormitory is located a short distance away from the main school and provides a family atmosphere with live-in Dorm Parents. The rooms are well furnished and equipped to meet the requirements of the students. 'A home away from home', the residential facility also offers co-curricular activities like swimming, tennis and a gym.
