Founded in 1972, Bandung International School (BIS), located in the
cool green hills of West Java, is a parent-owned, independent,
secular, co-educational day school for students between the ages of
3 and 18 years (pre-school grade 12). The school promotes
intercultural understanding through its ethos and curriculum, and
provides an education in a meaningful international context.
Bandung International School is large enough to offer a wide-
ranging curriculum and first class facilities, yet small enough to
retain a friendly community atmosphere with lots of teacher time and
attention available to each individual child. This enables new
students to adapt quickly to a new school in a new country.
The school's programme is taught by internationally experienced
teachers and focuses on the process of learning as well as the
product. Facilities include: fully equipped purpose-built classrooms
and science laboratories; an air-conditioned theatre; an extensive
library-media centre; a networked computer lab with Internet access,
a multi-purpose covered sports court and athletics field; a 25m
swimming pool; climbing walls and adventure play areas.
An extensive extra-curricular programme offers a wide variety of
activities for all ages, including sports, performing arts, music
and cultural outreach trips. The school encourages native language
development by providing facilities for such classes. The study of
Indonesian culture and language is done through special classes,
curriculum integration, cultural outreach trips and community
service. The school is also a centre for community activities and
adult evening classes.
Under Indonesian law, students must hold a foreign passport and a
KIM-S or DINAS visa. Students are assessed on entry into the school
for English proficiency and basic academic ability. The school does
not have facilities for students with identified special needs and
learning disabilities requiring specialist support. Students with
mild learning difficulties which can be catered for in a standard
classroom environment may be admitted
