Cilegon International School
Established in 1994, Cilegon International School aims to provide
a quality education for expatriate children from Playgroup up to Year
8. Situated near the west coast beaches of Java, about one hour from
Jakarta, the school offers quality facilities on a purpose-built campus.
These include a swimming pool, large playing field, adventure playground,
computer room (plus computers in every classroom), well-equipped library,
science lab and gymnasium. The school's high standards are facilitated
by a low student/teacher ratio, a well-qualified and experienced staff
and strong support for children who do not have English as their first
language.
The school year runs from the beginning of September through to
mid July and is divided into three terms. For those of Year 1 and
above, the day begins at 08: 00 and finishes at 14: 35. After-school
activities are offered every day for children of all ages and include
sporting, academic, musical and creative pursuits. Transport to
and from school is available for all those who request it. The school aims to develop an attitude of individual responsibility
by emphasizing honesty, responsibility and respect. Positive reinforcement
and a readiness to listen are the principles by which all staff
members relate to the children. The curriculum, based upon that from the UK and Australia, is specifically
designed to meet the needs of students from diverse backgrounds
currently living in a SE Asian country. Children are encouraged
to take an interest in the arts and lifestyles of Indonesia and
excursions are organized to various historical and cultural centres. Teachers are recruited from various countries including the UK,
