Sekolah Pelita Harapan - Cikarang Campus

The Sekolah Pelita Harapan Foundation began in 1993 as a national Christian private school system. The vision was to have an international-style curriculum that would offer a good education to national students who could no longer attend local international schools. According to the mission and vision these students are to be educated as future leaders of Indonesia. The Cikarang campus began in 1995. It is 31 km east of Jakarta in a planned housing area called Lippo Cikarang. This area caters to a middle income clientele. The current enrollment is 312. The students Cikarang first seeks to serve are local Indonesians. A second group of students the school has begun to serve are international students, expatriate students who are children of our teachers or from the community. There is a high concentration of Korean students whose parents work in the surrounding factories. This expat community makes up approximately 42% of the student body. The school operates a Kindergarten (age 3) through Grade 12 program of study. The IBO curriculum is being implemented with DP authorization being requested for 2005. PYP and MYP are being taught but are not yet authorized. According to the timeline, the request for authorization will be in 2007. In Kindergarten through Grade 6 the PYP curriculum is taught in English except for Bahasa Indonesia language studies. Each elementary classroom has a national teacher and an expat teacher moves between two classrooms teaching English. Grades 7 - 10 MYP is taught in English. National students have Bahasa Indonesia. Korean language is offered for Korean students. Grades 11 & 12 take Diploma classes, but there are no external exams by IBO until authorized. National students take national exams to earn a national diploma. Non-Indonesian students receive a school-based diploma. All three divisions of the school are accredited with the Indonesian Ministry of Education for four years. At this time, there is no Special Needs Program within the school. Students are screened at the time of admission.
