Study Philosophy

The Milltown Institute of Theology

and Philosophy Ireland

The first School of Philosophy at Milltown Park was inaugurated in 1880. More than 120 years later, we are still going strong. With a full range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, we continue to welcome Philosophy students from Ireland and all over the world.

Milltown is a specialist Institute. As such, it offers an alternative to large university campuses with multiple departments and thousands of students. It is easier to get to know both lecturers and other students.

Having said that, our pure Philosophy programme is actually one of the largest in Ireland or the U.K. We are fortunate also in having one of the best Philosophy libraries in this part of the world.

Some of our graduates have opted to make Philosophy their life-long endeavour. They are to be found in universities the world over. Others, the majority, have found a Philosophy degree very helpful in pursuing a wide variety of careers. Philosophy graduates are appreciated for their ability to think clearly and consider problems from different perspectives.

There is no such thing as a typical philosopher. Ever since the ancient Greeks initiated the tradition of rational reflection on all aspects of human existence, variety has been the spice of philosophical life. The study of Philosophy introduces students to an amazing world of ideas and theories. Philosophers believe passionately that absolutely everything is open to being questioned. If you are healthily curious and slow to accept ready-made answers, Philosophy may well be for you.
