Learning Support Programme
The International School in Genoa was founded in 1966. It is the only academic institution in the region of Liguria that provides complete programs in the English language for students of age 3 through 18, from early childhood through high school. The school is a non-profit organization incorporated in the State of Delaware. ISG is authorized by the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO) to offer their Diploma Programme (DP, grades 11-12). It is recognized as a private school by the Italian Ministry of Education. The school is governed by a 7- to 11-member Board of Directors elected for two-year terms by the Parents' Association, the sponsor of the school. Membership in the Association is automatically conferred on the parents of full-time, fee-paying students.

The school follows an international core curriculum that is oriented towards the academic skills of reading, writing, English, science, mathematics, and world studies. At appropriate levels the programs are designed around the guidelines of the IBO's DP, and the entire school embraces the IBO's philosophy and approach to teaching and learning. Students study Italian as a mother tongue or foreign language in all grades. Computer, music, art and physical education are part of the regular school program. Teachers hold university degrees with several years of teaching experience and classroom teachers have an American, Italian, Australian or other teaching certification. Admission to the school is based on the ability to offer a suitable academic program for the applicant.

Classes meet five days a week for about 180 days a year. The school year begins in September and extends to mid-June with breaks for Christmas, ski week, Easter and various Italian national holidays.

In September 2009, ISG relocated to its new site, a newly furbished historical monastery, in Via Romana della Castagna 11A, on the eastern outskirts of the city, in the mainly residential district of Quarto. The site offers a unique blend of history and modernity. There are 29 classrooms, an art room, a science laboratory, a computer laboratory, a music room, an indoor gym, sports facilities, a library, an Early Childhood Learning center, a cafeteria, an auditorium, an infirmary, as well as various faculty/staff rooms and administrative offices. All four floors overlook a cloister on the inside and a wooded park on the outside.
