The International School of Como (ISC) was founded in 2002 by a group of local parents who wanted to provide an international education for their children. The school is housed in a spacious building that belongs to a Seminary, in a residential area of Como. There are two extensive outdoor playgrounds, a soccer field and tennis court on the site. The school uses a nearby sports facilities to supplement those at home. Besides the classrooms, the specialist areas include an art room, a library with networked computer suite, an auditorium and a dining hall.

The school currently caters for around 103 children aged from 3 to 11. Teaching is based on the Primary Years Programme of the International Baccalaureate Organisation. The school is an authorized IB World School for PYP. Children learn in a warm, caring, intellectually stimulating and challenging environment, through active participation in a wide range of educational activities. Teachers in the Elementary School are all mother-tongue English speakers drawn from English-language countries in four continents. All are highly qualified and experienced. These are specialist part-time teachers of art, music and physical education who work with class teachers to plan lessons connected with the current PYP unit of inquiry. Italian language and culture are important elements of the IS Como curriculum and all students receive instruction in Italian either as a mother-tongue speaker or as an additional language. The school's four Italian teachers are locally hired, highly qualified and experienced teachers, who have come to us from the Italian public school system. They prepare mother-tongue speakers for entry into Italian middle school and provide a programme of Italian as additional language. Starting from Elementary Grades, students learn Chinese-Mandarin as a foreign language.

The school bus service covers a wide area of the Province and is near to Switzerland. There is an intense after-school programme offered during each of the three terms.

The school runs from early September to late June. Classes start at 08: 50 and finish at 15: 30 from Monday to Friday.
