It also offers a post-graduate year and a summer program which focus on classics and the humanities. It provides an academic classical liberal arts education; to achieve its goal, regular class field trips and on-site lectures throughout Rome take full advantage of its city location. The school is accredited by CIS and NEASC. Students are prepared for the SAT and a selection of College Board Achievement Tests. The International Baccalaureate Diploma and Advanced Placement programs play significant roles in the curriculum. Typically, 75% of the upperclassmen are IB Diploma candidates, while a further 10% are boarders completing a semester or year abroad. The curriculum, delivered within the global framework of the IB, reflects that of a demanding American independent school. Course offerings include English literature; History (Roman Topography, Medieval, Modern European, Contemporary, Classical Greek and Roman Studies, Islamic, US History, Renaissance and Baroque Rome, Art History); Latin; Economics; Mathematics through Calculus; Experimental Sciences; Environmental Systems; Modern language courses include French, Italian, and Spanish while private tutorials are offered in Mandarin, Japanese, Dutch, and German. Sculpture, Studio Art, Drama, and Music (instrumental and chorus) are an integral part of the curriculum. Central to the school's philosophy is the exploration of Italy and Europe through weekend excursions and activities for boarders, and two all-school trips (one per semester). Participation in the co-curricular program is required and includes community service, environmental stewardship, newspaper, yearbook, literary magazine, student council, plus a variety of student-run clubs. The sports program includes track and field, dance, tennis, soccer, yoga, basketball and volleyball.
