Climate:

Both the Mediterranean Sea and the desert affect Libya 's climate. In the winter, the weather is cool with some rain on the coast and in the drier the desert temperature can drop to sub-freezing at night.
The Sahara is basically very dry and hot in the summer and cool and dry in the winter.

Language:

Arabic is the official language, although Berber is sometimes spoken and English and Italian are used in trade. Arabic must be used for all official purposes.

Currency:

The Libya n dinar is the official currency used in Libya . Denoted by LYD, one Libya n dinar can be divided into 1000 Libya n dirhams. During the time Libya was still a part of the Ottoman Empire, the country used the Ottoman Empire currency, piastres.

Population:

Libya 's population of roughly 5, 115, 450 (est. July 2000) has seen an annual growth rate of 3.5 percent since 1975, when it was 2, 400, 000. With a predicated annual growth rate of 2.1 percent, the population will reach 7, 600, 000 in 2015.

Capital City:

Tripoli is the largest city and capital of Libya . It is also known as Western Tripoli, to distinguish it from Tripoli, Lebanon.
