The International School of Kuala Lumpur The purpose
of International School of Kuala Lumpur is to provide a quality education for
expatriate children in Kuala Lumpur. The school was founded in 1965 and is
registered as a non-profit educational institution under the Malaysian Education
Act of 1961. The International School of Kuala Lumpur's academic programs are
modelled on schools in the USA. The high school program is designed to prepare
students for admission to universities. Ten Advanced Placement courses are
offered. A full IB diploma is also offered. The medium of instruction is
English. French, Spanish, Mandarin Chinese and Bahasa Malaysia are taught as
foreign languages. The school is accredited by WASC. The school year at The
International School of Kuala Lumpur has two semesters, August-December and
January-June. The school day runs 08: 00-14: 45. Extra-curricular activities
include Scouts and Brownies, dance, gymnastics, swimming, various martial arts,
the Model UN, forensics, drama, newspapers, a yearbook, and numerous intramural
and interscholastic sports. The International School of Kuala Lumpur
operates two campuses. The Ampang Campus houses the middle (6-8) and high (9-12)
schools, and the Melawati campus houses the elementary (Pre-K-5) school. Both
campuses have air-conditioned modern facilities including carpeted classrooms,
special rooms for art, music, theatre and computer instruction. The Ampang
Campus has an 25,000 volume library, eight specialized science laboratories, one
gymnasium, two sports fields, a swimming pool, a dance room, theatre and two
tennis courts. At the Melawati Campus there is a 25,000 volume library, a
gymnasium, a swimming pool, theatre and one sports field. Air-conditioned
canteens at both campuses serve snacks and lunches. The International School
of Kuala Lumpur makes every effort to accept all qualified students who apply,
subject to the limitations placed by the Malaysian government on enrolment of
Malaysian citizens and limitations in providing a program for students with
special needs. Special education programs and facilities at The International
