Teacher/Pupil ratio 1:8 We are a co-educational, secular, non-profit day and boarding educational institution offering quality international education to children aged 4-19 years. Our IGCSE and IB Diploma examination results are consistently above global averages. As the only school in Penang offering the IB Diploma Programme, 32% of our graduating class has achieved 40+ points over the past two academic years. Uplands students have consistently earned placements at world top universities.
The School was originally founded in a colonial school atop Penang Hill in 1955 by the Incorporated Society of Planters (ISP) to provide expatriate planters a place to school their children. In 1976, the School was relocated to Georgetown and in 2006, to Batu Ferringhi. As we celebrate our 60th Anniversary, we continue to provide a nurturing environment for expatriate and Malaysian children alike, offering our boarding students a 'home away from home'. We foster the enjoyment of learning, discovery and enquiry in young people from over 40 nationalities in Penang. We are fully committed to the concept of Universal Values and International Ideals; the hope for peace in the future lies in an interdependent international community where 'Respect for Self. Respect for Others.', our school philosophy, is paramount.
Our purpose-built 4-acre campus features 60 classrooms, 5 Science laboratories, specialist IT and DT suites, Arts and Drama workshops, two multi-purpose halls with gymnasium, synthetic sports field, roof-top basketball courts and a 25-metre swimming pool. As an accredited IB World School offering the PYP and DP Programmes, Uplands is also recognised by the Malaysian Ministry of Education, and accredited through: The Boarding Schools Association (BSA); The Federation of British International Schools in Asia (FOBISIA); the Cambridge International Examinations Board; as well as the IBO.
From film to football, karate to calligraphy, over 100 different clubs and activities take place at lunchtime, after school and on weekends. This is our ECA Programme. Annual Performing Arts events and Visual Arts exhibitions, and successes in major national and international sporting events, are testament to our commitment to a holistic education for all students.
