School Introduction Eastern New Mexico University in Portales, New Mexico offers a quality education at an affordable price. The ESL institute was established to assist students who want to study at the university but need additional help with their English. Depending on TOEFL scores, students may be enrolled in as many as 18 hours of ESL courses or as few as two, with the other hours being in a student's area of study.
Portales is a small, friendly town on the eastern side of New Mexico. It is located at an elevation of 1, 219 meters (4, 000 feet). We have beautiful blue skies and lots of sunshine.
ESL Program Introduction
The ESL Program at Eastern New Mexico University is an academic ESL program offering 18 hours of instruction per week. Classes are content based and intended for students at an intermediate level or higher. In addition, there is a modern language lab with language learning software that students can use outside of class. Instructors all have Master's degrees and international experience.
Semester-long classes begin in August and September. In addition, there is a summer institute that runs from mid-July to mid-August.

Students taking courses taught in the ESL Institute are charged tuition based on the number of credit hours they are taking. Housing is extra, as are fees. More information is available on the university website under "International".
