Learning Support Programme
The International School of Amsterdam is a private, non-sectarian, day school designed to provide an English-language academic programme to the children of the international community in and around Amsterdam. A nine-member Board governs the school, which is accredited by NEASC in the United States and the Council of International Schools. ISA was the first school in the world approved to offer all three IB programmes and has been a long-time partner with Harvard University’s Project Zero and Visible Thinking Project. Student enrolment is 950.
The school offers the International Baccalaureate Primary Years, Middle Years and Diploma programmes and an American-style High School Diploma. The High School programme emphasizes university preparation, with graduates gaining acceptance to leading universities throughout the world. Students may take PSAT, SAT, ACT, and TOEFL tests, as well as the Cambridge Preliminary, First Certificate and Proficiency examinations. English as a Second Language classes are offered for students in kindergarten through grade 12. Mother tongue instruction is available in many languages during the day and through the school's Language Academy. Many of the faculty are leaders in the field of international education and serve as curriculum specialists and examiners for the IB programmes and trainers for a variety of innovative programmes.
The student body is drawn from 50 nations with the largest groups coming from the United States, UK, Japan, Korea, The Netherlands and Scandinavia. Students enjoy a rich after-school programme for extended study of music, dance and the visual arts, as well many opportunities for athletics.
The school is housed in a purpose-built 18, 000sqm building in the Amsterdam suburbs. Facilities include classrooms for all levels, a four-storey library-media tower, a 400-seat theatre, six computer centres, five science laboratories, two gymnasiums, design and food technology laboratories and specialized rooms for music, art, drama and language lessons.
