Learning Support Programme
The school was established in 1965 to serve the international community in and around Eindhoven. In 2009 the International primary school and secondary school in Eindhoven merged to form the International School Eindhoven.
The primary school is situated in the south-western part of Eindhoven, close to the city's ring road. Facilities include 28 classrooms with interactive whiteboards, a multi-purpose hall, a fully equipped IT suite, a well-resourced library, a gymnasium and sports field. There are two language departments: Dutch and English. The curriculum of the Dutch department is compatible with those applied in the Netherlands, with some additions from the International Primary Curriculum (IPC). The curriculum of the International department is based on the UK framework for Literacy and Numeracy and on the International Primary Curriculum. Children in the International department start to learn Dutch from four years old and the children in the Dutch Department also start to learn English from the same age. Integration between departments takes place through shared IPC units and other cultural activities. Most class teachers are native speakers.
Classes are small and children are often taught individually or in small groups. The children are placed into classes with pupils of the same age. There are over 35 nationalities represented in the school. Children whose mother tongue is not English are supported by their own teacher and the EAL/DAL staff who work with small groups helping them to develop their English and Dutch language skills. Both departments are supported by a special educational team.
The ISE Primary school maintains a good relationship with parents. There is frequent communication between all stakeholders forming the school community. Parents are represented in the school council. The school accepts pupils who have reached the eligible school-going age, regardless of their nationality, background or religion.
Since January 2009 the school has merged with the International Secondary School Eindhoven, and from August 2009 both schools became one under the name, International School Eindhoven.
The ISE Secondary school is located in the North Eastern part of the school and is well served by a large school building origanally designed for 700 students. There are 4 science laboratories, 2 computer laboratories, technology room, large library, gym, auditorium and specialist teaching rooms. The language of education is English with Dutch, French and Spanish taught as additional second languages. Students study using the International Baccalaureate MYP curriculum up to the age of 16 and then the IB diploma programme for the last two years of schooling.
The Primary and Secondary schools will re-locate to one site in September 2013.
