Bethlehem Institute is a non-denominational Christian institution established in 1993 as a private education provider under the Education Act 1990.

The mission of Bethlehem Institute is to be a Christian Tertiary institution of education, scholarship and research providing Christ-centred programmes for effective education, service and leadership

The campus is set on a spacious rural site in Elder Lane just ten minutes drive from downtown Tauranga, on Moffat Road (off State Highway 2). This campus is a non-smoking, no drugs and no alcohol zone. The country environment makes for a clean, green and inspiring place in which to study.

History


Bethlehem Institute (BI) was established as an operational centre on the same campus as Bethlehem College in 1993. BI was the first teachers college to be established in the Bay of Plenty region offering a degree in early childhood and primary teaching and a Graduate Diploma of Teaching (Secondary). In 1998, BI began offering a Diploma of Counselling and then in 2001, a Bachelor of Counselling as well. Upon received NZQA approval and accreditation, BI began offering the Diploma of Children's Ministries in mid-2000.

In 2003 BI gained approval to offer a Diploma of Family Support, a Graduate Diploma of Family Studies and a Diploma of Communication and Expressive Arts. The Diploma of Counselling was also approved for online, blended or flexible delivery which began in 2004.

The Institute is a non-denominational Christian institution that encourages critical reflection and discernment, equipping tertiary students in the light of Christian values and beliefs. Over the years since its inception, Bethlehem Institute has grown remarkably from 1.5 staff working with 10 students to a student body of 300 tertiary students serviced by 25 staff .

We have students with us currently from the Pacific, Asia, the US and Europe.CODE: Bethlehem Institute has agreed to observe and be bound by the Code of Practice for the Pastoral Care of International Students published by the Ministry of Education.
