- You can wander or cycle along the riverbank to the centre of the city,
enjoying the many parks and gardens along the way or just sit on the bank and
contemplate the water of the mighty Waikato as it passes.
Cafe
Scene -
The southern end of Victoria Street (our main street), is where the cafes have
concentrated. There are over 40 cafes, bars and restaurants within a short walk
and all have a different atmosphere to suit the experience you want. Just down
the road from the Hostel are several interesting cafes and of course the
'American fast food chains' are there as well.
Lake Rotoroa -
close to city centre surrounded by parks and gardens. This is a natural peat
lake that drains a large area of peatlands to the south and east of the city.
Zoo -
NZ's leading rural zoo - the theme is one of conservation. With a large open air
aviary and endangered animals in open grass enclosures. The latest additions are
2 large bengali tigers. You have to eyeball these to have lived!
