Queen Elizabeth College is a small, multi-cultural school with students from more than twenty countries. English tuition is available at all levels from Beginners to Academic. It is a student-centred school which has a caring attitude to all students.

LOCATION AND FACILITIES

The College is situated in the small city of Palmerston North. Quiet, safe and prosperous, Palmerston North is a well laid out university city with many parks and gardens, cinemas and sport facilities. The city is famous for its educational facilities and warm hospitality towards international students. The school is well resourced, with well kept grounds and buildings, two gymnasia, a swimming pool, computer suites and Library, and conversation room for English for Speakers of Other Languages students.

SPECIAL RELATIONS WITH OVERSEAS SCHOOLS AND STUDENTS

Queen Elizabeth College has a large ESOL Department The cultural diversity of the students is celebrated regularly with shared meals, Race Unity Day and International Festivals where students share their cultures in various ways, including displays, dance and music.

STUDENT WELFARE

Pastoral care is priority. Students are met on arrival and taken to their homestays. The Dean of International Students is responsible for looking after students at school and in their homestay and is available by phone after school hours for emergencies. The Dean keeps in close contact with parents and homestays. Young students also have a group teacher, a year level Dean, a Guidance Counselor available to them.

ACCOMMODATION

Homestay families are carefully selected and monitored and we are proud of our excellent host family network. Homestay board is approximately $165.00 per week. This covers all meals, room and laundry.

ENGLISH LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS

Students are assessed on arrival and a course is selected in consultation with them which will suit their needs and aspirations

ENGLISH LANGUAGE SUPPORT

Classes are available at all levels and cover reading, listening and speaking. Academic English is taught to support students who wish to go on to University or other tertiary study. Support for those in main streamed subjects is available for individuals.

Tuition fees are NZ$8350 payable in advance. This is for a full time course for one year.

Homestay fees can be paid on arrival to the homestay families, one month in advance initially. Medical insurance is required and if not already purchased, can be arranged here. This does not include fees for extra-curricular activities like sport or field trips. A range of part time courses are available for adults if required and for a proportion of the full-time fee paying students
