INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS
Elm Park School has chosen to enrol International students to:
· Enhance the cultural base of the school · Promote the understanding and tolerance of individual differences · Enhance the schools financial viability · Provide programmes for all students that are well resourced and effective
Elm Park School offers an environment where there is already an international climate, with 36 cultural groups represented within the mainstream. As such, we have established networks of support, and teachers who are skilled and experienced in meeting the needs of multi-cultural students and their families. We offer supportive orientation and induction programmes that ensure that International students settle quickly to take advantage of the wide range of programmes and activities that the school has to offer.
International student programmes vary, depending on:
· The level of English language ability · The intended length of enrolment
Students may be:
· Mainstreamed directly into classrooms · Placed in assessment classes and then mainstreamed · Placed in home classes for language, then cross-grouped into the mainstream
APPLICATION PROCEDURES To apply for a place at Elm Park Primary School, the school Application Form must be completed and submitted to the school office. A member of the school senior management team will then interview the student and caregiver/agent Criteria for EnrolmentProspective international students seeking to enrol at Elm Park Primary School must: 1. Have an English-speaking guardian, caregiver, or agent in New Zealand to act on behalf of the student’s parents. 2. Have suitable supervised accommodation in either a school-arranged homestay, or arranged by their parents. 3. Sign the school Code of Conduct. 4. Inform the school of sickness, behavioural issues, disability, or special education needs before enrolment. 5. Provide previous school reports to the school. 6. Meet New Zealand Immigration Service requirements. Failure to comply and fully disclose in accordance with the above may result in termination of the student’s enrolment by the school. Accommodation The school holds a current register of approved homestay carers. Students may apply to be placed with a homestay carer following confirmation of enrolment. Any difficulties or issues that may arise with homestays must be referred to the school’s international student manager, or a member of the school’s management team at the earliest opportunity.
