The International School of StavangerThe International School of Stavanger, founded in 1966, is a private, independent, co-educational, English language day school, under the management of a self-perpetuating Board of Trustees and Director. ISS is accredited by the European Council of International Schools and the New England Association of Schools and Colleges. The school is supported by the government of the City of Stavanger. The school is organized into three sections: Primary (pre-school-grade 5), Middle School (grades 6-8), and Secondary School (grades 9-12). Secondary curricular offerings include the ISS diploma program, International Baccalaureate and the IGCSE. The ACT, ITBS, PSAT, SAT and other tests are administered. ISS also offers an EAL (English as an additional language) program. The teaching staff includes citizens of fifteen nationalities. Most were trained in the United States, United Kingdom or Norway. About half of the student body is from North America. Norwegian and British citizens are the second and third largest nationalities. There is a total of 25 nationalities attending ISS. The average length of stay is three to four years for students. Classes meet five days a week between mid-August and early June. A full range of activities is offered including choral and instrumental music, drama productions, intramurals, Model United Nations, outdoor education programs, student council, yearbook, and many other clubs. ISS is a member of the NECIS sports association, and fields teams in soccer, volleyball, basketball, track and field, softball and swimming. The campus was completed in 1982 with additions completed in 1994 and 1999.
