ISS is accredited by the Council of International Schools and the New England Association of Schools and Colleges. The school is organized into three sections: Primary (pre-school-grade 5), Middle School (grades 6-8), and Secondary School (grades 9-12). Secondary curricular offerings include the ISS diploma program, International Baccalaureate and the IGCSE. The ACT, PSAT, SAT, ISA and other tests are administered. ISS also offers an EAL (English as an additional language) program. The teaching staff includes citizens of twenty nationalities. Most were trained in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia or Norway. British, Norwegian and American citizens are the largest student nationalities. There is a total of 51 nationalities attending ISS. The average length of stay is three to four years for students. Classes meet five days a week between mid-August and early June. A full range of activities is offered including choral and instrumental music, drama productions, intramurals, Model United Nations, outdoor education programs, student council, yearbook, and many other clubs. ISS is a member of the NECIS sports association, and fields teams in football/soccer, volleyball, basketball, track and field, rugby and swimming. The campus was completed in 1982 with additions completed in 1994, 1999 and 2012. The building includes 85 classrooms, two libraries, three computer labs, a school-wide technology network, 1: 1 iPad programme for grades 7-12, theatre, cafeteria, infirmary, ten science labs, four gymnasiums, innovative design technology laboratory and extensive outdoor facilities. |
