Learning Support Programme
ABA – An IB World School occupies a 25, 000 square meter campus, including a sports complex and fields, tennis courts, a 25 meter pool, computer labs, science labs, Design and Technology (DT), Secondary building, Early Childhood and Elementary Centre and a Performing Arts Centre.
ABA aims to educate the whole person – academically, creatively, socially and physically, within an international curriculum framework. The school helps each individual reach his or her potential while fostering cooperation, mutual respect and understanding.
The school year begins in mid August and ends in mid June. There is a fall break in October or November, winter break in mid December and a spring break in March or April (usually one week). The school observes all government declared private holidays.
ABA has an international curriculum framework inspired by the International Baccalaureate (IB) Program, which encompasses grades from the Primary Years through to the High School level.
The IB Primary Years Program is the basis for the curriculum in the Elementary School. The IB Middle Years Program strongly influences the curriculum structure and teaching goals in Grades 6-8. The integrated IGCSE and IB Middle Years Program shape the grade 9-10 courses and the IB Diploma Program is at the core of ABA’s Grades 11-12 course offerings.
ABA provides an international environment with an exceptional record of high marks in the IGCSE and International Baccalaureate examinations as well as the acceptance of ABA students to high-ranking Universities and Colleges throughout the world. We offer a high quality international academic program that recognizes the value of technology and the importance of multi-cultural understanding in an increasingly interconnected world.
In addition ABA has an activities program that fosters a sense of community spirit with emphasis on participation by all students. Sports, theatrical productions and intramural events are some of the activities offered.
All teachers hold university degrees and/or certification, and have had an average of six years teaching experience. There are specialists in counseling, learning assistance, ESL, drama, art, vocal and instrumental music, information technology and PE. The student/teacher ratio is 1/9 and the maximum class size is 22.
