Climate:	Papua New Guinea's climate is tropical, as one would expect in a country located just south of the Equator. December to March is the wet season, although occasional rain falls year-round.
Language:	Papua New Guinea is linguistically the most complex nation of the world. Over 800 languages are spoken in this Pacific country as summarized in Ethnologue: Languages of the World. In cooperation with the PNG Department of Education since 1956, research has been carried out in more than 389 languages.
Currency:	The kina (ISO 4217 code: PGK) is the currency of Papua New Guinea. It is divided in 100 toea. The kina was introduced on 19 April 1975, replacing the Australian dollar at par.

Population:	PNG's population in 2009 is estimated at 6.6 million and is growing by an annual average rate of 2.7% (2000 Census). About 40% of PNG's total population is under 15 years old (2000 Census).
Capital City:	Port Moresby is the capital and largest city of Papua New Guinea (PNG). It is located on the shores of the Gulf of Papua, on the southeastern coast of the island of New Guinea.
