Learning Support Programme
The British International School of Cracow (BISC) was founded in order to provide an English-based education to the growing international community in Krakow. BISC opened on 1 September, 1995, and now educates children between the ages of three and nineteen, from twenty different countries.
BISC is accredited by two English examining boards: AQA and CIE, entitling students to sit GCSE, IGCSE, 'AS' and 'A' level examinations on the school premises. The school is also authorized by the IBO to deliver the Diploma Programme and this is the culminating qualification for students.
The school contains well-equipped science and ICT labs, a growing library, and gym facilities and a swimming pool are located close by.
Class sizes are small throughout the school (between 10 and 20 pupils in each class) which allows teachers to meet the educational needs of individual pupils. Foreign languages are strongly emphasized and non-native speakers of English follow an EAL programme for as long as is needed for them to access the curriculum of the school. Native speakers of languages other than English are offered three hours per week tuition in their mother tongue (where possible), upon parental request.
Twice a year, children have the opportunity of attending a week's camp in the mountains of Southern Poland or Slovakia; a ski camp in January and a 'Green' camp held during May where outdoor activities are emphasized.
BISC has very strong art, music and drama departments. Each year these subjects combine in concerts and musical productions. Individual class assemblies also take place at various times during the year. Extra-curricular events include ice-skating, a dance club, a maths club, and weekly instruction in 'survival' Polish for parents.
BISC has a very active PTA, which meets regularly, and an Advisory Board which holds six meetings per year. The PTA strongly promotes voluntary parental help within the school and organizes social events for pupils, staff and parents.
