ASW is organized into three school divisions ensuring developmental and age-appropriate settings for students aged four years old through to university entrance level. The curriculum is based on widely accepted US and international standards, culminating with the International Baccalaureate (IB) program in the last two years of high school. Graduates attend a variety of top colleges and universities around the world including the US and UK. In addition to core classes, specialist teachers work in the areas of library media, visual and performing arts, physical education and technology. Languages are a priority as French, Spanish, German, Dutch, and Polish are offered as foreign languages and Polish, Dutch, Swedish, German, Spanish and Danish are offered as parent-sponsored Mother tongue languages during the school day. Extensive co-curricular activities in athletics and non-athletics support the K-12 curricular program. The school is a charger member of the CEESA Sports and Activities League. The teaching staff is largely composed of experienced American teachers certified in their respective teaching areas. Teachers specializing in learning disabilities and four counselors are on staff full time. ASW is housed on a state-of-the-art campus. Facilities include 56 classrooms networked with computers, computer labs, an early childhood wing, science labs, music rooms, art rooms, a theater, gymnasiums, a swimming pool, a full-service cafeteria, full track, soccer fields, softball fields, outdoor tennis and basketball courts, multiple playgrounds and courtyards. A new, LEED-certified, 4700-square meter arts and sports building has just been completed and will be available for educational purposes in September 2012. An eleven-member Board of Trustees governs the school, two appointed by the US Ambassador to Poland, five of whom are selected by the Board of Trustees and four who are elected for two-year terms by an Association comprised of the parent community of the school. The Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) President may be a US or non-US citizen and serves for one year. Membership of the Association is automatically conferred on the parents or guardians of students enrolled in the school. The school is accredited by the Council of International Schools (CIS) and the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC). Eligible students may be admitted at any time during the year if space is available. Transcripts/report cards, health/immunization certificate, verification of date of birth and interview are requirements for admission. |
