Children of 21 different nationalities make up our student body. CURRICULUM The renown curricular framework of the New Zealand National Curriculum serves as a foundation for WIS's international curriculum, which emphasizes critical thinking, communication, and problem-solving skills taught through a variety of instructional strategies. The language of instruction is English. STAFF Our internationally trained staff is experienced, certified, and highly qualified. Regular professional development opportunities support our teachers in providing the best possible education to our students. FACILITIES Our new (February 2004) modern purpose-built facility is located near the center of Wroclaw. WIS students from grades 5 through grade 8 attend this campus. A second campus was set up at the onset of this school year to meet increasing enrolment. The new campus is located in a newly renovated villa in the southern part of the city and houses the pre-school through grade 4 classes. The distance between buildings is less than 3 km. SCHOOL YEAR AND SCHOOL DAY The school year is 180 days, September through June. The average school day is 8. 00-15. 00. EDUCATIONAL PHILOSOPHY At Wroclaw International School we believe in academic excellence through education of the whole child. We reflect this belief through creating individualized programs to meet each student's needs, helping our students develop to their highest potential. We understand that children learn and grow best within a caring, supportive and meaningful environment. We undertake to provide the most enriching and stimulating educational program possible, while keeping in mind the needs of expatriate youth in our school community. We are sensitive and supportive of the transitions inherent in the international community. We provide opportunities to learn about cultures different from our own and encourage interest in and empathy for humanity. While promoting acceptance and respect for others, we encourage students to question and challenge behaviors or actions of individuals and societies. Our desire is to build constructive world citizens who will have an impact on their community here in Wroclaw and the world around them.
