Learning Support Programme
The International School of London in Qatar (ISLQ) opened in September 2008 as a successful candidate of the initiative by the Supreme Education Council of the State of Qatar to attract “Outstanding Schools” to establish branch campuses in the capital Doha.
ISLQ is currently seeking authorization to implement the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) and the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP) from Early Childhood to Year 10 (ages 3 to 14). The school intends to expand its operation over the next three years to include the IB Diploma. The curriculum is holistic and child-centered; core subjects are taught in an inquiry-based and integrated approach by well qualified and internationally experienced educators. ISLQ aims to maximise the achievements of its students through the curriculum and in personal and social fields and to promote the values of international mindedness and multicultural understanding within the school community.
English is the language of instruction at ISLQ, and English as a Second Language support is offered to students at all levels. Mother Tongue is valued highly, and instruction is made available in many languages according to need. The Mother Tongue programme forms an integral part of the curriculum from Early Childhood to Middle School.
Located in the North Duhail area of Doha, the school is housed in a purpose-built, air-conditioned building with large classrooms, a library, two IT suites, three science laboratories, twoaArt rooms, Food Technology room, an auditorium, an assembly hall, a gymnasium and large grounds for a variety of outdoor sports. A brand new school facility catering for approximately 850 students is currently under design, and construction will begin in the near future.
Admission to ISLQ is based on previous school records, satisfactory references and, where necessary, personal interview or testing in English and Mathematics. The school encourages parents and students to visit the school so that they can see the facilities, meet some of the teachers and hear about life at ISLQ from the students.
