Reunion's climate is tropical, with temperatures affected by elevation. The average coastal temperature is between 64 F and 88 F (18-31 C), with temperatures dropping in the interior. Humidity is high. The island has two seasons: summer and winter.

French is the only official language of Reunion. Although not official, R union Creole is also spoken. One can hear it in any administration or office, but education is only in French.

The franc was the currency of R union until 2002. Before 1973, R union had its own franc, distinct from that of France. After 1973, the French franc circulated. R union now uses the euro. The R union franc was subdivided into 100 centimes.
