Learning Support Programme
International British School of Bucharest was founded in 2000 by Mrs Simona Cohen, opening in September, 2000. The purpose of the school is to provide a high quality, English medium, international education for children of expatriate families and of Romanian citizens.
The school provides a co-educational environment for children aged 3 to 19, offering a curriculum based on the English National Curriculum (with an emphasis upon the strategies of Numeracy and Literacy) adapted to reflect both the international nature of the student body and the traditions of the host nation. The curriculum leads to IGCSE examinations in Year 10 & 11. The school also runs an AS/A level programmes for years 12 & 13. Romanian, Germa, French and Spanish are taught as additional languages, with an extensive range of out of school activities.
The Senior teaching staff are a blend of British nationals and Romanians, many of whom have been educated and trained in British/Foreign universities. The school has a good staff retention rate with many of our teachers here for 4-5 years or more.
The school is committed to keeping class sizes low - no more than 20 in each class - and there are teacher assistants for each class in the Junior School.
The school is situated in the centre of Bucharest and is housed on purpose-built premises. There are three buildings - one for EYFS, one for primary, and one for secondary. The secondary building contains a dedicated science lab, art room and computer room. There is a play area in the front of the school.
The academic year is 180 working days for students and the school year starts in September. The school has an open admissions policy and children are placed according to age and ability.
IBSB is an accredited member of both ECIS and COBIS and has regular school OFSTED inspections.
