The instructional programme, whilst retaining identifiable UK and US characteristics, has been designed to accommodate the educational needs of its culturally diverse population of students. All teaching staff are university certified, most of whom hold advanced degrees. ISA is accredited by both CIS and MSA. The school is organized into: Elementary (PS-5), Middle School (6-8) and High School (9-12). ISA moved into a a new purpose-built school during the summer of 2010. The school features classrooms with networked computers and Broadband Internet access, science laboratories, three computer centres, a fully networked library/media centre, 300-seat theatre, black box theatre, two sports halls, swimming pool, tennis courts, artificial turf playing field and play area. French and Spanish are taught in all grades, and a mother tongue Dutch programme is offered in the Elementary School and Grade 6. English as an Additional Language (EAL) is available for students needing support in English as an academic language. The school provides limited specialist assistance for children with mild learning difficulties. Careful admissions analysis of student needs ascertains whether appropriate services can be provided. All students are expected to complete ISA's regular curriculum; Learning Support and EAL help to accommodate that goal. Various student council, club and athletic opportunities are available for all students. Field trip opportunities are available within Scotland for students in all grades. Opportunities to travel outside Scotland are available to Middle and High School students in athletics and vocal/instrumental music. Additionally, High School students have the opportunity to travel to other countries for grade level curriculum-related or community service trips, Model United Nations, and modern language immersion trips. All students graduating from the International School of Aberdeen earn a High School Diploma. All ISA graduates are prepared to enter colleges and universities, and each year over 95% elect to do so. In addition to earning the ISA High School Diploma, students may enrol in the International Baccalaureate (IB) Programme: offering students a rigorous curriculum in Grades 11 and 12, opportunities for advanced research and includes Creativity, Action and Service expectations. |
