Singapore Education
The
location of the country affects a lot on its weather and
climatic conditions. The main features of its climate
are uniform temperature and pressure, high humidity and
abundant rainfall. Singapore
has four official languages: English, Malay, Mandarin,
and Tamil.[104] English is the first language of the
nation and is the language of business, government and
medium of instruction in schools. The Singapore
constitution and all laws are written in English.80% of
Singaporeans are literate in English as either their
first or second language. When Singapore joined Malaysia in 1963,
it shared in Malaysia's common currency. However,
Singapore was expelled and became independent in 1965
and lost its monetary union. In 1967 Singapore
established a Board of Commissioners of Currency and
released its own notes called the orchid. The orchid is
now known as the dollar (SGD). The population of Singapore, which is
entirely urban, was estimated at 4,151,264 in July 2000.
In 2000, the birth rate stood at 12.79 per 1000 people,
a low level attributed to urbanization and birth control
policies, and the death rate stood at 4.21 per 1000. Singapores capital city is the big blue
