Sub-programmesDrug design and mechanisms in neuropsychiatry and neuroprotectionIn this sub-programme there are several internationally recognized researchers with expertise in chemical synthesis of organic compounds, chemical-physical characteristics, structure-activity relationship and drug design, metabolism, inborn errors of metabolism, analytical method development, mitochondrial studies etc. The group also focuses on the diseases and therapy of the central nervous system (CNS), specifically anxiety and stress-related disorders, and the involvement of neurodegeneration. The sub-programme aims to develop animal models of neurological and psychiatric illnesses (in vitro and in vivo) with the aim of improving our understanding of the biological basis and pharmacological treatment of a given disorder.
Drug DeliveryDrug delivery has an excellent team working on drug delivery processes across biological membranes in order to enable more efficient bioavailability and delivery of drugs and the development of novel cost effective drug delivery systems. Research on the physico chemical aspect of formulation for industry is also our core business. Post graduate programmesAll post graduate programmes are managed by the focus area. We offer Masters, Ph.D as well as Post Doctoral training. Students can do an academic internship during their Masters degree studies in the School of Pharmacy.
