Learning Support Programme
International College Spain, located eight kilometres north-east of Madrid, is a co-educational, international school open to students of all races, nationalities and religious beliefs. It was founded in 1980 and exists to serve students aged 3 - 18 in the international and local communities. Its aim is to deliver an international education of the highest quality.
The school's academic curriculum is international throughout. The three International Baccalaureate Organisation (IBO) programmes, the Diploma (Grades 11 and 12), the Middle Years (Grades 6 through 10) and the Primary Years (Kindergarten through Grade 5), are offered. Middle Years Programme Certificates are awarded at the end of Grade 10 and both the full IB Diploma and the school's own ICS Graduation Diploma are awarded at the end of Grade 12. Students can also sit College Board tests including PSAT and SAT. The vast majority of ICS graduates are offered places at universities worldwide, but particularly in Europe and North America. The programme of studies is fully convalidated by the Spanish Ministry of Education for both foreign and Spanish students and the school is accredited by both CIS and the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (USA).
English is the language of instruction with Spanish and French as the second languages (B). Dutch language (A) is currently offered within the fee structure and fourteen other first languages (A) are also available, but at an extra charge.
Students represent at least 50 countries, with the largest numbers originating from Spain, the USA, Holland, the UK, Mexico, Sweden and Japan. The teaching staff are similarly international in origin. They currently represent 27 nationalities with the majority coming from the UK, the USA and Spain.
The school's academic year starts in September and ends in June with customary breaks for holidays in each season. The daily timetable starts at 08: 50 and ends at 16: 10. The school has a very wide-ranging extra-curricular activities programme including many sporting and cultural events and school expeditions.
