1. About the University:
Acadia University is primarily an undergraduate institution providing a
liberal education based on the highest standards, a scholarly community
that aims to ensure a broadening life experience for its students,
faculty and staff.
2. Where we are: Acadia
University is located about 100 kms northwest of the provincial capital
of Halifax, Nova Scotia in a small town called Wolfville. The small town
setting and predominantly residential character encourage personal
growth through close contacts with students and professors, through
participation in intramural and intercollegiate activities, and through
a wide variety of cultural programs. Acadia students form a close
relationship with the small, safe, and friendly town of Wolfville. 3. International Project, Services and Activity:
Acadia’s mission is
to provide a diverse cultural and intellectual environment by attracting
students from widely different cultural, geographic, ethnic, and
demographic backgrounds. To recognize the importance of the university
to its surrounding community, to promote community service in all areas
of the university, and to address regional, national, and international
issues. The
Wong International Centre Recognized as one of the best undergraduate universities in Canada, Acadia
University is home to more than 600 international students from over 65
different countries each year. With
the support of a full-time international student advisor, an
orientation program, a host family program, a buddy program, English as
a second language tutoring and international student clubs, students
soon feel comfortable in their new surroundings.
The Wong International Centre provides a place for international
and Canadian students to meet, to promote communication and to plan
cultural and social activities. The
International Centre provides services, resources and opportunities for
Canadian and international students and serves as a community centre to
the extended Acadia community. The International Centre the offices of
the International Student Advisor and International Liaison Officer. The
international centre also provides a home away from home for the
international community that enriches our campus. Canadian students are
encouraged to use the centre to learn about the culture of international
students and study, work and travel abroad opportunities.The
International Centre provides a supportive environment in which students
can maximize the benefit of coming to Acadia. The primary target of the
centre is to provide students with the services necessary to ensure they
are being fulfilled academically, socially and culturally. 4.
Academic fields of study:
There
are over 200 degree combinations from the Faculty of Arts, Pure and
Applied Science, Professional Studies and Theology. Within these
faculties there are also specialized programs offered by the Schools of
Business Administration, Computer Science, Education, Engineering,
Music, Nutrition and Food Science, and Recreation Management and
Kinesiology, among many others. There are over 1000 part-time jobs on
campus, and a wide range of co-operative education and internship
opportunities.

is home to a diverse international community of 3,728 full-time students
from over 65 countries. There are 11 residences on campus, which house
1,674 students. 7. Approx. international student enrolment: 638 8. Unique feature: Acadia has embarked on the
next evolution in learning through The Acadia Advantage, an academic
initiative, led by committed faculty, which integrates the use of
notebook computers into the undergraduate curriculum. Acadia's students
receive IBM ThinkPad computers for their use as an integral part of
their learning experience during the academic year. Students can connect
to the Internet from any location on campus to download class notes,
participate in chat groups or e-mail professors. This unique undertaking
enhances the university's teaching and learning. The Acadia Advantage
has been inducted into the Smithsonian.
9. Essential Facts: Acadia
University was founded in 1863 and maintains a reputation for
excellence. For the seventh year in a row, Canada's opinion leaders
consider Acadia University to be the best overall, primarily
undergraduate university in Canada. In the MacLean's annual universities
issue, Acadia also placed first in the "Leaders of Tomorrow"
and "Most Innovative" categories. This marks the fifth
consecutive year that Acadia has been considered the most innovative.
Students enjoy a supportive, dynamic, and fun residential campus life.
There are 343 full and part-time educators employed at Acadia, and the faculty/student
ratio is 15:1. Classes are small, interactive and
conducted in state-of-the-art learning environments. Acadia students
