Adams State College was founded in the year 1921 as a teacher's college, but it later grew into a fine liberal arts college. Today, students can earn a bachelor's degree in any of 16 majors with 28 minors and emphases offered by the college. It also offers master’s degrees. ASC was recently designated the Regional Education Provider for southern Colorado.
The college campus is spread out over an area of 90 acres. It holds all academic buildings and residential complexes within the area. Richardson Hall is the main administration building of the college and was named after the school's first president, Dr. Ira Richardson.
ASC sports teams are known as the ‘Grizzlies’. They participate in NCAA Division II and the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. They are the winners of 43 National Championship team titles.
