Study at California Baptist UniversityCalifornia Baptist University, popularly called Cal Baptist, was originally founded in 1950 as the California Baptist College. It is a private Christian liberal arts institute in Riverside, California. The campus is spread across an area of 103 acres of land. Cal Baptist's recent enrollments have been more than 3,000 students. Cal Baptist offers a large number of bachelor’s and graduate degrees and teacher credential programs through the following academic divisions: The athletics teams of California Baptist University are nicknamed the Lancers. The men’s and women’s teams participate in golf, soccer, baseball, basketball, swimming and diving, water polo, volleyball, wrestling, softball, and tennis. The U.S. News and World Report of 1998 placed Cal Baptist among the top five regional liberal arts institutes for faculty-student ratio. The 2006 edition of U.S. News and World Report ranked the university among the top 60 in its "Universities–Master's (West)" category. California Baptist is in a large city, in Riverside, CA. The school has a Southern Baptist religious affiliation. California Baptist is classified as a private, not-for-profit college. Students at the school earn degrees up to the Master's degree. The most common major fields study at California Baptist include therapy and counseling, nutrition and exercise therapy, and liberal arts. The school does not admit all applicants. The middle range of verbal SAT scores in 2007 was 450 to 550 for students at California Baptist. While math SAT scores among applicants varied, those accepted commonly had scores between 440 and 550. Some professors at the school are awarded tenure, allowing the school to retain good faculty members. California Baptist, in 2007, had 3,775 students (3,181 full-time equivalent). Dorm living is common. California Baptist makes available student meal plans. Athletic teams at the school belong to the Golden State Athletic Conference for major sports.
