Study at California State University Dominguez Hills

California State University, Dominguez Hills, also referred to as CSUDH, was built in 1960. However, it was only in 1966, following the Watts Riots, that the university started its full fledged educational programs in response to the communal outcry over the lack of higher education opportunities in Los Angeles’ African American suburbs.

The athletic teams of CSUDH are known as the Toros, and the university boasts of a 27,000 seat multiple-sports complex called the Home Depot Center. There are separate soccer, cross-country, volleyball, basketball, softball and track and field teams for men and women. The alumni consists of literary and screen personalities like Wendel Vernon Eckford, Kate Gale, Scott Shaw, Clarence Gilyard, John Langley, Lela Rochon and Brian Kehew, and famous journalists like Steffan Tubbs.
