Study at California University of PennsylvaniaCalifornia University of Pennsylvania, popularly referred to as Cal U, was founded in 1852 as a public university. The main campus spans over 90 acres of land and with an additional 98 acre for a recreational complex. The university enrolls over 6,000 students in its undergraduate and post graduate programs. Cal U's athletic teams go by the nickname Vulcans, with the mascot being Blaze. The official colors are red and black. The sports department includes the volleyball, soccer, basketball, tennis and baseball teams, along with the ice hockey and softball teams. Cal U boasts of four national championships in basketball, softball and ice hockey. The university’s football team also won three straight PSAC championships. California University is located in a town not far from a more urbanized area, in California, PA. The school is a public institution. Degree levels at California University top out at the Post-Master's certificate. Students at the school often study mathematics and nutrition and exercise therapy. The admissions department at California University does not accept all those who apply. Most students' verbal SAT scores were in the range of 430 to 510 in 2007. A quarter of students admitted in 2007 scored 530 or higher on the math SAT. The school's tenure system is geared toward rewarding and keeping the most valuable professors. By paying its faculty better than most schools, the school tries to attract and retain a high quality teaching staff. California University offers classes to 8,206 students (7,347 full-time equivalent). Many students live in housing on or near campus. California University does offer meal plans to students.
