Study at Dakota State UniversityDakota State University, also known as DSU and was established in 1881 by the Territorial Legislature. It is a public college, and is located in Madison, South Dakota. DSU was initially known as the Dakota Normal School. It became the Dakota State University in the year 1889. The university provides majors and programs in various fields of study. The facility of distance education is also offered. DSU is organized into the following academic divisions: Dakota State University’s athletics department fields a number of men's and women's sports teams. They compete in the Dakota Athletic Conference, which is affiliated by the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics. Nicknamed the Trojans, the teams participate in sports including volleyball, basketball, track, cross country, and baseball. Dakota State is in Madison, SD. Madison is a self-contained town. The school is a public institution. Dakota State issues awards (degrees) up to the level of Doctoral degree. The school tries to provide students with lots of choices, and does not tend to focus on only a few programs of study. Fields of study in vogue at Dakota State include mathematics, computer science and engineering, and medical adminstration. Not all applicants to the school are accepted. The most successful professors at Dakota State are given tenure, encouraging them to stay with the school for a long time. Approximately 2,546 students study at the school (in 2007).
